Coins versus bills
I don't think many will dispute the fact that we tend to value promissory notes (bills) more than coins, typically because they are in fact worth more than their metal counterparts. But, here in the Great White North (Canada), our one and two dollar bills were both replaced by coins some time ago. It's quite easy to undervalue just how much in coins one has. Today, I decided to count how much change I have in my car. Not including all the quarters and smaller change, I have $31 in change. Now, that's just plain silly.

I miss the $1 and $2 coins. Seriously, the dollar bill sucks; and, no matter how hard the US Treasury tries to get rid of them, they just won't die. - Larry Halff, Tuesday, June 15, 2004 I agree, in Australia we also have one and two dollar coins. Every nite i clear the "shrapnell" from my wallet and put it in a box in my cupboard. I took the box to the bank about a mounth ago and i had $208.45 in coins. - Patrick Gibson, Sunday, June 27, 2004 |
