Worst Stopwatch Ever

On Friday, I was perusing the website of Simply Computing, a local Apple Computer dealer in Vancouver. I saw an ad or something that said something like, "Sign up for something-a-ma-bob, and get a free Apple stopwatch." Being a sucker for free Apple merchandise, I signed up for said something-a-ma-bob. Today I went down with Mike to claim our free Apple stopwatches. We were the first two to do this since the promotion started! And now I see why... (click here) This is basically the worst stopwatch I've ever owned (and yes, I have owned a few). The screen has some sort of fish-eye lens on it, making it difficult to read the LCD screen below. There is a "light" on it, that is, if you consider a small, dim LED to be a "light". What it can illuminate beside itself, I have yet to discover. It does have a clock, an alarm, an hourly chime, and a built-in clip to latch onto your pants or wherever. But all in all, it's the worst stopwatch I've ever seen. Shame on you, Apple, for letting someone put your logo on such a crappity product. Shame...

Bad promo product aside, signing up for the test drive in order to stand a chance at winning a machine I won't be able to acquire legally otherwise...

An hourly chime, you say? The world sure needs more of those. It's silly of Apple to fall back on a tired promotional gimmick. It would have been easier and nicer to give you, say, two free songs from the music store. That's worth signing up for, and more useful than some plastic that is more likely to end up in the garbage or forgotten at the bottom of a drawer.

I think your being too hard on the stopwatch. At least it looks attractive.
