New Beginnings Wednesday, June 11, 2003
I did something drastic just now. I've just retired my email client that has served me for the last couple years. While Microsoft Entourage has some nice features, it is just so damn bloated. And with four POP3 accounts and a combined 38,449 messages (I counted), I need something that's going to perform.

Enter GyazMail. I decided (partially on the advice of Mike) to make a clean, fresh start; I'm not going to import my old messages. Instead, I'll just keep Entourage kicking around in case I need anything. I may go through, and import select messages, but we'll see. GyazMail, at version 0.9.9.9.4, seems like a very promising mail client. I would use Apple's Mail program, except I prefer a three-pane layout, much like Outlook Express, Entourage, and now GyazMail (screenshot). GyazMail has a very nice, clean interface, with some great icons. And if you decide to customize your toolbar, you can add the Dogcow: a button that does nothing other than play this noise.

Actually, truth be told, I'm not going to totally retire Entourage. I'm still quite fond of the calendar that it has. I would use Apple's iCal, however in my tests, it does not actually remind me of appointments when it's not loaded, which is simply unacceptable. Perhaps the next version will be better.

So far I am very impressed with Gyazmail, for a development version it is very stable and complete. I plan on using this clean and fast mail client for the forseeable future.
