Video on Linux...

The infamous JWZ has a nice rant about the state of video on Linux. At the bottom, he contemplates moving to the Mac, but the lack of a native XEmacs (a graphical version of a really old Unix text-editor) seems to be holding him back. Maybe I'm being naïve, but from the sounds of it, this guy is pretty damn unhappy with much bigger issues about his current operating system. I've only had a few [frustrating] experiences with Emacs and XEmacs, so I guess I don't see what's to love about it. Instead, I'm pretty damned happy with what I consider to be the best text editor: BBEdit. I think JWZ would like it just fine!

Alas my good friend. Saying Emacs is simply a text editor is like saying Netscape Communicator was just a browser!

Some people say emacs is almost like an operating system in itself.

In my opinion, that's even more reason to switch. I mean, for the love of Pete, it's at version 21.4 already! I think after a certain time, a product has to stop being developed, and something newer, cleaner, faster, and more modern needs to be built.
