Parallel Parking Update
It's been brought to my attention by someone close to me that the parallel part of "parallel parking" is actually the fact that you end up parallel to the curb. While that is a pretty good point, and basically nullifies much of what I previously wrote, it still doesn't explain why parallel parking implies that you go in reverse. So, I'm going to update the term to be reverse parallel linear parking.
